Camping Competition 2010

The 2010 Lonsdale District camping competition took place in perfect weather at SilverHelme campsite over the weekend of 24 - 26 September.

Just three teams took part in the event this year, which was rather a shame as, once again, there was a very interesting programme of activities.

The teams set up their sites on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Following Flagbreak the teams took part in a number of challenges including pitching a patrol tent, building the highest tower from Lego - to hold an egg, fire lighting and blowing the top off a can, whittling cutlery from wood and a search to find natural items beginning with every letter of the alphabet.

Teams had to cook meals over open fires and there was a wide game and a quiz on Saturday evening.

On Sunday teams arranged their own programme of activities and our Scouts were scheduled to build a ballista to fire water bombs and to do some plane-table mapping of the campsite.

When all the points were totted up our team triumphed for the 4th consecutive  year winning the Centenary Camping Trophy, which was presented by Mark Walker the ADC (Scouts).

Our winning team are pictured above (unfortunately, one member, inset, suffered an accidental injury on Saturday evening and had to go home).

Well done to all!
