Camping Competition 2009

The 2009 Lonsdale District camping competition took place at Littledale campsite over the weekend of 25 - 27 September.

Just four teams took part in the event this year, which was rather a shame as there was a very interesting programme of activities.

The teams set up their sites on Friday evening and Saturday morning (very early on Saturday in the case of one team I could mention!) Following Flagbreak the teams took part in a number of challenges including building a raft to cross the river, shooting, archery, climbing, firing a missile and assembling a bike.

Click here to view the YouTube video on raft building.

Teams had to cook meals over open fires and there was a wide game and a quiz on Saturday evening.

On Sunday teams arranged their own programme of activities and our Scouts undertook disability tent pitching, to try to appreciate the difficulties experienced by disabled people in their daily activities, and also built a rocket launcher.

When all the points were totted up our team triumphed for the 3rd year running winning the Centenary Camping Trophy, which was presented by Paul Sargent the ADC (Scouts).

Four of our winning team are pictured above (unfortunately, one member was taken ill on Saturday evening and had to go home).

Well done to all!
