Cycle Ride

Torrisholme - Glasson Dock - Galgate - Torrisholme
10 June 2007

To conclude the Cyclist badge, we arranged an all day cycle ride.

The weather for the trip was absolutely superb, dry and sunny, if a little on the warm side!

Our route took the 18 scouts and 2 accompanying leaders from our HQ on Michaelson Avenue to the cycle track on Westgate, on the former railway line. The trip was not without incident as one bike suffered 2 punctures on this first section. The scouts then set off in Patrols along the cycle track to the Millennium Bridge at Lancaster. From here, after further minor repairs and adjustments, the Patrols cycled along St George's Quay past the Maritime Museum and down through delightful countryside to Stodday and on to Conder Green.

A welcome lunch was taken alongside the Lune at Conder Green, followed by ice creams at Glasson Dock - and another puncture repaired. Moving onto the Lancaster Canal the Patrols experienced a bumpy ride along the towpath, past a series of locks and through idyllic scenery to Galgate. The route then followed the main canal through Deep Cutting and Aldcliffe into Lancaster. Through Lancaster we rejoined the cycle track by the Millennium Bridge and proceeded to the end of the track by Morrison's supermarket and then along Morecambe promenade and finally back to HQ.

Well done to all concerned on completing a memorable trip through tranquil surroundings on a beautiful day.
